After more than a year of rethinking, reconfiguring and rewiring, the studio is now ready to use. My concept is to have a configuration that would usually require several people to operate. This would include the musicians, engineer, assistant and producer, working in various spaces such as the tracking, mixing, and writing rooms plus a lounge and listening area.
However the new approach will allow me, completely by myself, to be able to perform all of those functions, or wear any of those hats effortlessly whenever I have the creative urge. See below for a more detailed description.
Note: this is a private facility and not for hire.
The studio contains seven areas or “stations” as I’m calling them:
1. Main Studio Desk station (recording, mixing)
2. Piano/Synth station (tracking, writing)
3. Hammond/Modular Synth station (writing, tracking)
4. Laptop station (writing, tracking)
5. Drum station (tracking)
6. Tape Deck station (audio restoration)
7. Listening station (the lounge)
Everything is completely interconnected – I will be able to do anything, anytime, at any station quickly and effortlessly. Building and configuring all of this has taken quite a while, due to the new studio being very complex with its wiring, software integration, and sheer number of systems involved.
However, musical ideas are already beginning to form as I’m completing the various stations. I’m beginning to hear a faint knock at the door and I can feel that it’s becoming louder. Soon I’ll be ready to open that door and invite Music in.
